Offcall

Offcall brings salary transparency to physicians navigating complex compensation structures. I was brought on as the Founding Designer to build the platform from scratch. Creating a benchmarking dashboard and design system that helps doctors understand their worth and make informed career decisions.

When we started, doctors in every specialty had no real way to compare what they earned. Between base pay, call shifts, bonuses, and benefits, it was a mess of numbers with no clear sense of what was fair. And for a group already dealing with burnout, that lack of clarity around pay was just one more source of stress when making big career decisions.

We spoke with physicians across dozens of specialties like cardiology, pediatrics, hospital medicine, and emergency care, and the same questions came up every time. Am I paid fairly? What should I be making? How do I stack up against my peers? Everything else came second.

That became our focus. The dashboard we built wasn’t about cramming in more data; it was about making sense of it. We stripped away the noise and focused on comparison and context. Clean visuals replaced spreadsheets. Clear hierarchies guided attention to what mattered. Color-coded benchmarks made it obvious where you stood in the market at a glance.

Compensation data is messy and varies wildly between specialties and settings. The challenge was to build something flexible enough to handle all that variation while keeping the experience consistent. We leaned on progressive disclosure, showing essential info first with deeper details available when needed, and customization that felt optional instead of overwhelming.

The salary dashboard eventually became the backbone of Offcall’s design system. Every chart and visualization was designed for clarity and speed, knowing doctors often have just a few minutes between patients. Each component could be reused across the platform, keeping the experience consistent and making it faster to build new features in the future.

We wanted complex pay data to feel approachable, not intimidating. So we turned layers of numbers into visuals that told a story at a glance. Benchmarks used plain language like above market, at market, and below market so doctors could see where they stood without doing any math.

Since launch, Offcall has grown to more than 5,300 physician profiles, triple what we projected in year one, with zero paid marketing. Growth has come entirely from word of mouth. Seventy-eight doctors have referred colleagues, monthly searches climbed from 4,380 to 5,640 clicks, and nearly a thousand people now subscribe to our newsletter. When design removes friction and delivers clear value, people naturally share it.

Offcall website

Offcall needed a marketing website that positioned the platform as more than just a salary tool. Together with the founders we designed a site and content strategy that balanced product features with community value.
