Offcall

Offcall brings salary transparency to physicians navigating complex compensation structures. I was brought on as the Founding Designer to build the platform from scratch. Creating a benchmarking dashboard and design system that helps doctors understand their worth and make informed career decisions.

Physicians across specialties had no way to benchmark their compensation. Base salary, call pay, bonuses, and benefits created a complex web of numbers with no clear market comparison. For a profession already facing burnout, salary confusion was adding unnecessary stress to critical career decisions.

We talked to physicians across dozens of specialties, including cardiologists, pediatricians, hospitalists, and emergency medicine. The pattern was consistent: they needed answers to three specific questions: "Am I paid fairly?", "What should I be making?", and "How do I compare to peers?" Everything else was secondary.

The dashboard prioritizes clarity over complexity. Instead of overwhelming users with raw data tables, the interface focuses on comparison and context—clear visualizations that answer specific questions, visual hierarchies that guide attention to what matters, and color-coded benchmarks that make market positioning immediately obvious.

Compensation data varies wildly by specialty and practice setting. The challenge was creating a flexible structure that accommodates different variables while maintaining a consistent experience. We designed around progressive disclosure—essential data up front, detailed breakdowns available when needed, customization that feels optional rather than required.

The salary dashboard became the foundation for Offcall's design system. Charts and data visualizations prioritize readability and speed—physicians often have just minutes between patients. Every component was designed for reuse across the platform, ensuring consistency while enabling rapid development of future features.

Complex compensation structures needed to feel approachable, not intimidating. We transformed multi-variable data into scannable charts that provide instant insight. Benchmark comparisons use intuitive visual language—above market, at market, below market—so users can assess their position at a glance without parsing numbers.

Since launch, Offcall has grown to over 5,300 physician profiles—3x initial year-one projections—with zero paid marketing spend. Growth is driven by word-of-mouth: 78 physicians actively referring colleagues, monthly search traffic climbing from 4,380 to 5,640 clicks, and nearly 1,000 newsletter subscribers. When design removes friction and delivers clear value, users become advocates.

Offcall website

Offcall needed a marketing website that positioned the platform as more than just a salary tool. Together with the founders we designed a site and content strategy that balanced product features with community value.
